Seattle, WA - Treason Gallery is pleased to announce its July solo exhibition, Casey Weldon: BLUNDERLUST. Opening reception will be held on Thursday, July 5th from 6pm-9pm during the First Thursday Art Walk in Pioneer Square.

Casey Weldon’s work has garnered much acclaim throughout the contemporary art world. Utilizing his iconic psychedelic palette of bright pinks and blue hues, Weldon’s work stands out amongst others in the “post pop-surrealist” movement. Weldon’s paintings depict strange and dreamlike circumstances of interchange between people and the natural world, creating a poignant and cinematic narrative that draws his viewers in.

Weldon’s new solo exhibition, ‘BLUNDERLUST’ is his long awaited and highly anticipated return to Seattle since his last exhibition in 2016. ‘BLUNDERLUST’ consists of an entirely new body of work, unseen to the public, rooted in Weldon’s familiar choice subjects: a variety of surreally painted cats and women placed in alternative realities and environments. Executed with his signature meticulous touch, Weldon’s work is simultaneously curious and exciting, appearing backlit with exuberant energy.

CASEY WELDON | Seattle, WA

Casey Weldon was born in southern California, where he spent the majority of his life up to his graduation from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. After a brief time running his own studio in Las Vegas, Nevada, He relocated to Brooklyn, New York then Seattle, WA where he now lives and works as an illustrator and fine artist.

By using to the iconography of today and yesterday’s popular culture, his work aims to awaken a feelings of nostalgia within the viewer, though often along with a sense humor, melancholy, and longing for times lost.

“It’s hard for me, as I’m sure it is for most artists, to define my work to others, mainly because I want it to be so many things and am not sure what is translating the clearest. My intent is to be narrative, accessible, and hopefully pleasurable to look at. I definitely like to involve a lot of nostalgic pop references, especially for the more humorous side of my work, but I also like referring to nature and man’s interaction with it. In the end my major goal is to get the viewer to be inquisitive about the painting, either to get the punchline, or make one up on their own. I can only hope that I can be interesting enough for them without being too ambiguous, but still say something without spelling it out.”
