JOEY DIEZ | Miami, FL
I never studied art, but as a young kid began observing then learning graffiti lettering on my own. I have used these letters and that specific style as the foundation of my work and transformed it into shapes, figures, characters, and body parts. The idea of communication is what drives my work, creating pieces that transcend visual languages and unify its viewers through its universal themes and ideas. The style is both expressionist and abstract, and stylistically post graffiti with a heavy influence of Miami’s tropical and art deco coloring. My pieces are never preplanned; rather they are the physical representation of the emotions and stories that manifest themselves in my mind. Each piece is extremely personal to where I am and what’s going on in my life at that time.
It’s through art that I have been able to truly find myself and come to peace. I want to share my love of art with my community and use it as a tool to achieve positive outcomes. It’s very important to me to give back and one of the things I love the most is working with children and explaining the positivity and importance of art expression and creativity.
