Seattle based painter Brian Sanchez debuts an entirely new body of work at Treason Gallery, ‘IDLE URGE.’ Sanchez’s approach to abstract art is rooted in emotional conversation, using color theory as a means to communicate to his viewers. Although in its essence the work is abstract, the compositions emulate life painting and landscapes. While others use light, depth, and texture, Sanchez uses optically vibrating contrasts, sequenced line work and challenging compositional techniques to pull viewers into the paintings. When viewed in it’s entirety, the exhibition pulses with radiancy similar to the depths of a gloomy jungle at sunrise.

Sanchez’s approach is process driven and highly methodical. Carefully using diametrically opposing colors to draw his audience into a visual and unexpected experience. This allows the paintings to converse with the viewer, playing tricks on the eye while simultaneously drawing one in closer. While the work exemplifies his proficient grasp of color and their relationships, the emotional connection his paintings evoke are the true pay off as one sits with this body of work in a gallery setting.
