ANDREW BARNES | San Francisco, CA
Andrew Durgin-Barnes was born in San Diego in 1985 and moved to Bremerton, Washington, five years later. He had been interested in art from a very early age, and when he was 16 he moved to Seattle where he met artist Jesse Edwards who introduced him to oil painting. After studying drawing for several months under the instruction of Mark Kang-O’Higgins at Gage Academy, Barnes took up studying traditional methods and the great masters who pioneered them on his own for several years. In 2014 he moved to the Bay Area where he continues to work and study at San Francisco Art Institute. Barnes’ work is based around the structures of classicism and is generally executed in a traditional manner. Drawing and rendering of form coupled with allegorical motifs are important elements to communicate Barnes’ thoughts and feelings about the world around him.
