Dessie Jackson was born in Lancaster, PA in 1992. She received her BFA in painting and drawing from Tyler School of Art, in Philadelphia. Her solo exhibitions include Femme-Enfant at the American Dreaming Building, Philadelphia (2015); You Looked Pretty Today, BFA exhibit (2014) and her self titled show, at National Realty Gallery (2014). Her work has been included in selected group exhibitions at Arch Enemy Arts (Philadelphia), North Bowl (Nothing To Wear), Vox (I Am Not), Art in General (New York, NY), and ABV Gallery (Atlanta, GA). Dessie Jackson works primarily with charcoal, pencil, and oil paint. Major themes in Jackson’s work include femininity, sexual identity, representations of gender and identity, and beauty as personal responsibility as well as performance. Dessie’s work has appeared in publications such as NYLON magazine, Racked, Milk Studios, We The Urban, VICE, Noisey, Philly Current, Complex, MTV and more. Some of Dessie's clients and projects she has worked with include Bratz, Vfiles, The Hundreds, Red Bull, Epic Records, Equal Vision Records, and Adoro Lei. From 2014-2015, Jackson curated and led the exhibition project Snippet & Frame, which took place every First Friday in Philadelphia. She has received The Vivian Rosenberg Award, Alec Abels Memorial Award in Painting, Nominee for Artist of the Year by Rad Girls, and #30under30 Philadelphia’s Most Inspiring Women.
